Five Industries That Presented Job Opportunities During The Covid-19 Lockdown

Do you know that the Covid-19 pandemic has affected every aspect of life and work? In every country with high Covid-19 infection rates, people have had to make dramatic changes to their lives just to adjust to the new normal. The rising death rate makes people scared of going about their daily lives without taking extra precautions to stay safe. Those who have the privilege of working from home have welcomed the opportunity with arms wide open. Those who don’t have this opportunity are in desperate need of safe jobs in high demand. Many industries have thrived during the pandemic and it might do you some good to look into them.

1. Digital Technology

When it comes to the realm of digital technology, the opportunities are limitless. All the electronic devices in your home are most likely digital. Keep in mind that digital technology isn’t just used to refer to phones. It also refers to systems, resources, and other tools that are used to generate, process, and store data. Some branches of digital technology are visualization, web development, digital business analysis, digital marketing, digital design, data, data science, digital product management, and social media just to mention a few.

2. Information Technology

Just like digital technology, information technology has been booming since the virus started. To be fair, the industry has been hot long before there was anything like Covid-19. The IT industry has to do with using computers to store, transmit, and retrieve data. It has a range of applications in businesses, entertainment, and personal technologies. Job opportunities in the IT industry that have surged in demand include application analysis, data analysis, cybersecurity analysis, IT technical support, information systems management, and database administration.

3. Logistics

Pandemic or not, logistics is one industry that is always in need of workers. Even when there were international travel restrictions in major countries, logistics companies still forwarded parcels internationally and nationally. Since people were afraid to leave their homes during the early days of the pandemic, logistic companies made a lot of money from national parcel delivery. They were in charge of keeping the supply chains active. If you dive into the logistics industry, you can become a freight agent, warehouse worker, warehouse manager, procurement manager, transportation analyst, supply chain manager, inventory manager, logistics engineer, or customer care representative.

4. Healthcare

This list can’t be complete without the healthcare industry. For better or worse, healthcare workers are always there to attend to the health needs of the public. While millions of people were staying safe at home, healthcare workers were reporting to work daily. Some had to take double shifts consecutively for weeks at a time. Thousands of these brave workers have lost their lives because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Job opportunities in the healthcare industry are numerous. Apart from the popular options for doctors and nurses, there has also been a surge in the demand for nursing assistants, pharmacists, physical therapists, home healthcare workers, and medical technologists.

5. Grocery Retail Industry

Grocery retail workers have also been in high demand since the beginning of the pandemic. In the first few weeks after the virus reached the United States, stores were working at full capacity. This is because people were panic-buying in hopes of waiting out the Covid-19 storm. Many of them believed that they could avoid going out again until the virus ended if they hoarded enough supplies. One year later, the virus hadn’t ended and the initial hoarding was futile. You don’t typically need a university degree to enter the retail industry. However, you’ll need industry expertise, communication skills, digital literacy, and product knowledge. You can pick up most of the skills remotely and for free.

Conclusion

All five industries listed above have been recruiting steadily since the pandemic started. This is despite the fact that many other industries were forced to shut down and lay workers off. If you’re currently unemployed, use the extra time you have to develop tech skills that will remain relevant in the next few decades. One of the easiest industries to penetrate is the grocery retail industry. You don’t need to become a tech guru before you can start looking for a job in the food industry.
