Magento recently released Magento Open Source 2.2.0 Release Candidate 2. x (formerly Community Edition). This version includes significant new features as well as many bug fixes.

New Features:

  • Significant enhancements in platform security and developer experience
    • Security improvements include the removal of specific unserialized calls and changes to a hashing algorithm to improve security for sensitive values.
    • Developers will appreciate improvements in debugging, customization, and logging.
  • Upgraded technology stack
    • Magento has dropped support for PHP 5.6 and Varnish 3.
    • Magento now supports PHP 7.1, along with Redis 3.2, MySQL 5.7, and Varnish 5 support.
    • All third-party libraries have been upgraded to the latest stable version.
  • Pipeline deployment
    • A new deployment process enables multiple build and deployment stages that can run separately.
    • The resource-intensive process can run on the build server.
    • Pipeline deployment supports easy management of configuration between environments.
  • Substantial performance gains from improvements in indexing, cart, and cache operations
    • Customers can browse and shop on a storefront while indexers are running.
    • Cart improvements enable a buyer to create a cart with more than 300 line items, and merchants can process a cart with at least 300 line items.

 Steps for submitting an extension on Marketplace

With the updated version of Magento Open Source 2.2 release, nearly all major issues have been addressed and the code is now stable and ready to submit the most updated versions of your extension to the marketplace.

Steps for Submitting your extension on Marketplace:

  • Review Magento Open Source 2.2 release information
    • Visit the Magento 2.2 Quick Start Site. This site includes release notes, documentation, a list of backward compatibility changes, and much more to help prepare for the release.
  • Download Magento Open Source 2.2
  • Test Release
    • Test the latest version and submit any issues via GitHub by August 21, 2017.
  • Test and submit your Marketplace extensions
    • To list an extension in the Marketplace in time for GA, Magento recommends limiting updates to the composer.json and module.xml files.
    • Review the extension’s compatibility and verify that the code still functions as designed with both functional and automated testing.
    • Submit to Marketplace EQP.
